Anthurium Ace of Spades

from $75.00

Anthurium 'Ace of Spades' is a striking and unique variety of anthurium with dark, almost black, velvety leaves. Proper care is essential to keep this beautiful plant healthy and thriving. Here are some care tips for your Anthurium 'Ace of Spades':

Light:

Provide bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. Too little light may result in leaves dying.

Temperature:

Maintain a consistent temperature between 65°F to 80°F (18°C to 27°C). Avoid exposing the plant to cold drafts or sudden temperature fluctuations.

Humidity:

Anthuriums thrive in high humidity. Aim to keep the humidity level around 60% or higher. You can achieve this by using a humidity tray. You can do this by taking leca, pon or stratum, putting it in a tray below or next to the Anthurium (added heating mat is a bonus) and filling the tray with nutrient filled water. (yes, the plant can also absorb some nutrients from the water droplets on the leaves).

We find that humidifiers do cause fungus for the leaves so cannot recommend the use of one.

Watering:

Keep the plant media consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch (2.5 cm) of the plant media feels dry to the touch.

Use a well-draining potting mix to prevent waterlogged roots, as Anthuriums are susceptible to root rot.

Potting Mix:

Use a well-aerated, coco coir-based potting mix with good drainage for your Anthurium 'Ace of Spades.'

Fertilizing:

Feed your plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted.

Pruning:

Trim dead or yellowing leaves to promote new growth and maintain the plant's appearance. Use clean, sharp and sanitized scissors or pruning shears.

Repotting:

Repot your Anthurium 'Ace of Spades' every 2-3 years or when it becomes extremely root-bound. Choose a slightly larger pot with good drainage because these Anthuriums do prefer a being a little bit root bound.

Pests and Diseases:

Keep an eye out for common houseplant pests such as mealybugs and spider mites. Treat any infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal issues, such as a fan, but be sure to not have it directed at the leaves as it’ll make them too dry.

Support:

As the plant grows, you may need to provide stakes or supports to keep it upright, especially if it becomes top-heavy.

Toxicity:

Keep Anthuriums out of the reach of pets and children, as they are toxic when ingested.

With proper care, your Anthurium 'Ace of Spades' should reward you with its stunning dark foliage and occasional flowers.
